Breaking the Silence -

A Personal Story and a Call to Action for Men’s Mental Health

It was the middle of the night. My husband and I had argued earlier, and I had gone to bed, exhausted and frustrated. The house was quiet except for the distant hum of our car running in the driveway. At first, I thought nothing of it, maybe he was just going for a drive to clear his mind. But as time passed and the sound of the engine didn’t fade, I woke up with a
strange sense of unease.

I stepped outside to check, and that’s when I saw him.

The car was still running. A pipe was connected to the exhaust. My husband was inside, trying to take his own life while our two daughters and I were asleep inside the house.

There was no cry for help.

No suicide note.

No final txt saying goodbye.

Just silence.

By some miracle, I had woken up in time. In a state of shock, I dragged him out of the car and back inside. We lay there in bed, and I just kept making sure he was okay. I had no idea what to do. I was numb. I knew he was struggling, but I didn’t know how to help. He had always been the silent type, keeping his pain locked inside, brushing things off with a simple “She’ll be right.”

And he’s not alone. So many men suffer in silence, believing they have to bear their burdens alone. The rising number of men struggling with mental health, feeling a lack of purpose but not knowing how to voice it, is shocking. The statistics on male suicide are devastating, and yet, we don’t talk about it enough.

Taking Action: BSCO’s Commitment to Men’s Mental Health

This issue is deeply personal to me. As a woman who battles with my own mental health and as someone who has witnessed my husband reach the point of wanting to end it all, I know how important it is to speak up and take action.

That’s why, at BSCO, we are committing 5% of all sales to raising awareness and supporting men’s mental health initiatives.

If this story resonates with you, know that you’re not alone. Whether you’re struggling yourself or know someone who is, there is help, and there is hope. Let’s break the silence, support each other, and work toward a future where no man feels like he has to suffer in the dark.
